Casting Call  ~ Seeking Latino Queer Male, 20s-early 40s

 

TITLE: VOZ ALTA: Ahí Vamos!                         TYPE: Full-production theatrical staged reading (live)

 

SYNOPSIS: VOZ ALTA, is a theatrical staged reading that features the life stories of Latino community members, performed through poetic narratives and music by actors and musicians. Ahí Vamos! showcases the story of a Latino gay man from Eastern Oregon who forges identity through family relationships, community engagement, and celebrating Latino and Gay culture. VOZ ALTA: Ahí Vamos! is presented by Joaquin Lopez, Creative Laureate for the City of Portland, through the Creative Laureate Program.

Tuesday, May 9, 6 pm – 9 pm Rehearsal/Read through

Thursday, May 11, 6 pm – 9 pm, Rehearsal

Saturday, May 13, 1 pm – 5 pm, Rehearsal

Thursday, May 18, 6 pm – 10 pm, Rehearsal

Friday, May 19, 6 pm – 10 pm Final Dress, Multnomah Arts Center

Saturday, May 20, 1 pm – 4 pm (Show at 2 pm), Multnomah Arts Center

Sunday, May 21, 1 pm – 4 pm (Show at 2 pm), Multnomah Arts Center

 

PERFORMANCE DATES: Friday and Saturday, May 20 & 21 at 2 pm at the Multnomah Arts Center

 

CREATIVE TEAM: Producer/writer: Joaquin Lopez; director/producer: Michael Cavazos; music director: Gerardo Calderon; musician: Gisela Rodriguez; actor 2: Nurys Herrera

 

RATE OF PAY: Non-union project. $600.00

 

ACTOR REQUIREMENTS: Language: Bilingual (Spanish/English); age range: mid-20s to late 40s, identities: Latino, Gay, Queer, Latinx (The story is about a Latino queer man and the creative team would like to have a Latino queer actor.)

 

ROLE/CHARACTER: The performance is a true story about the formative experiences of a Latino gay man who grew up in a farmworker community in Eastern Oregon. His accomplishments include graduating high school, attending private university, working in higher education, and being active in the Latino and Gay communities in Portland, Oregon. The story features formative experiences from childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and adulthood with family, friends, and social environment. The role includes storytelling and dialogue with other actors interwoven with live music and song. No memorization is required. Scripts are used on stage.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to provide their own transportation to rehearsals and performances.
